Capt Valma Brenton E-RYT
Global Adventurer, Speaker, Trainer and Success Coach

My parents immigrated from England when I was a baby. We traveled by boat on the Queen Mary from Liverpool to Montreal. My mom told me I was the mascot on the ship for an English football team...hmmm I started young! Within my first year we had traveled all of Canada, by boat, train, car and many other modes of transport. Eventually, my family moved to the Sunshine Coast near Vancouver, BC. This is where I grew up, fishing, sailing, hiking, kayaking and exploring many wilderness areas. I have always had a curiosity about the world, love to travel and discover all that is possible. As a result - I have discovered through the contrast of my experiences what my definition of true success is for ME. Life for me is like a river flowing in magical adventure, freedom, curiosity, creativity and recognition. Fortunately, I have the inner knowing how to have these aspects of me BEING met in a constructive way. Today, I live in the loveliness of what life has to offer.  I truly love my Life!

Where have I been and where am I going?

Logging was a part of my early adulthood life and I started my first working career in the coastal logging camps expanding my experience in first aid, cooking, running equipment and playing crib in the bunk house.  Wasn't long before the sea called my name and for over 25 years, boating and sailing have been a major part of my life. During this time, my career and personal adventures on the oceans of the world have allowed me to see myself in an entirely new light.

Since 1979, I have sailed the British Columbia West Coast, Hawaii, British Virgin Islands, French Polynesia, Mexico and Belize on boats ranging in length from 20 to 55 feet and have been single-hand-sailing my own 24-foot San Juan sloop "Wholphin II" for the last 10 years. In addition, I have captained and crewed on 20 to 110 foot scuba dive charter and commercial fishing vessels.

I feel honored to have run scuba dive charter vessels on this coast including the 60' MV "Clavella" built in 1939 as well as the 110' converted sub chaser "Lady Goodiver". Those were the days - 5 dives a day and exploring both West and East Coast of Vancouver Island as well as many mainlet inlets, some of the fastest navigatable water and best cold water diving locations in the world. I have fond memories of many of my guests that came aboard looking for adventure.  Between running these boats, fishing was also big in my life. I managed to move through many of the fishing gear types - trolling, seine fishing, long lining in the winter and the list goes on. Yes, adventure truly is in my veins.

I still maintain a Fishing Master IV International Captain's license and have completed the CSC 2 60 ton Small Craft Masters training. It was great fun to be certified as an International Occupational Scuba Diver and hold PADI Open Water, Advanced and Rescue Diver Certifications since 1985. I particularly enjoyed the diving that I did with our floating enclosed fish rearing technology the SEA System developed by my associates and myself at Future SEA Technologies. Oh yes, the aquaculture industry is another story in my life.  This took me all over the world.

My desire to inspire others to create skills and confidence to explore the coastal areas by boat moved me towards further trainings. Sail training includes Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) Basic Cruising, Intermediate, Advanced and Coastal Navigation Standards as well as the Canadian Coast Guard (PCOC) Pleasure Craft Operators Card. In addition, I am a qualified CYA Basic Crew & Cruising Day Skipper Instructor and CYA Intermediate Crew and Cruising Bareboat Skipper Instructor and CYA Advanced Crew and Cruising Coastal Skipper Instructor also qualified to instruct and examine clients for the CCG PCOC (Pleasure Craft Operators Card).

I have also enjoyed exploring the BC West Coast by kayak for the last 16 years and have trained as a kayak leader and overnight guide. Further training is enhanced by holding Marine Advanced First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, CPR and ROC-MC (commercial) and Operator's Restricted with DCS endorsement (pleasure craft radio communication certifications).

On the awareness side of her my life, I have studied a range of alternate medicines and as a Certified CEM therapist inspire and empowers others and myself through a process called Consilence Energy Management. (CEM) or Energy Mirrors formerly Consegrity. This is a wellness process that works with the electromagnetic and vibrational systems of the body by reflecting/mirroring in a way that supports clearing at the level of cause. This process empowers the body’s ability to heal itself. CEM realizes the body’s natural capacity to generate electromagnetic vibrations for every remedy the body needs for healing. It creates a bridge to wellness and has been effective in empowering optimal health. It also empowers self awareness, builds confidence and provides the ability to tap into your "higher self" and unleash your full capacity for success and happiness. By mirroring energy and teaching other techniques that allow for personal responsibility, I enable my clients to step into awareness, thereby increasing the ability of the body to shift, unifying the mind, body, and spirit.

My personal mission is to travel and create and enlightened world by spreading the light of consciousness. One way in which I empower myself to raise a high level of consciousness, stay focused, healthy and present in my own physical body is through Qigong and Yoga. These practices create a bridge between the body and the spirit. It is my belief that they will also play an important role in the global awakening. Certified in Qigong (Cloudy Satchel form), E-RYT (Experienced Yoga Teacher) in Iyengar & Ashtanga based Hatha yoga, Iyengar precision & Ashtanga Hatha Yoga and Qi Yoga flow are practices that I incorporate in my daily life as well as all sail training and women only adventure programs. I do believe that Qigong and Yoga movement gets people into their bodies, deeply connects them to themselves, and more openly connects them with nature and others. It is a transformational practice which encourages well-being and vitality.

Did I say that I am a life long learner? Over the years I have experienced some pretty amazing personal development programs including being a graduate of Context Associated Training, Peak Potentials Training and Mastery of Self Expression programs. I have been fortunate enough to gain certification in Spiritual Iridology, Train the Trainer Certification, Animal Communication, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), I trained as a Law of Attraction Coach and a host of other interesting and profound personal growth processes. I see myself as having access to all of the knowing in the universe and through all of my studies and trainings I have gained a wealth of knowledge and I am passionate about inspiring and empowering women to celebrate joy, health, happiness and vitality in every moment of their BEING.

My experience teaching self-awareness programs such as; in the moment music, meditation, Qigong, Yoga, success, business & life coaching for women, sailing & self-awareness programs and survival first aid for boaters, fisherman and loggers, has helped me to develop an acute awareness of what women need to build confidence, self esteem and competence in the traditionally male-oriented world.

I have a varied business background with experience as a business owner, entrepreneur and developer of advanced environmentally friendly technology for the global fisheries/aquaculture industry. My business experience has taken me across Canada - British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia, through the USA and internationally into Tasmania, Curacao, Scotland, Chile and French Polynesia. I have participated in business startups/development, and have held positions at the Board level, management, operational, sales & marketing and research levels. Wow! I am amazed at me.

Yet another life: I am a successful author and photojournalist, specializing in boating, sailing, fisheries and aquaculture related subjects. In addition, have published numerous research publications that have appeared in scientific journals and government scientific updates. Other feature articles and photography has been published/displayed in magazines, newspapers, books and art galleries. West Coast Fisherman, Northern Aquaculture, "Working the Tides" A Portrait of Canada's West Coast Fishing Industry and Pacific Aquaculture. She was featured in "Salt Water Women at Work” by Vickie Jensen.

My personal experience as a woman in nontraditional roles both on the water, in the forest and in the business world has provided me with the insight, inner strength, confidence and self esteem to believe that I CAN manifest, create and achieve anything. Yes, all things are possible now!

"My purpose, Is to be a mirror for other women, to empower them to feel joy, health, happiness, and vitality in every moment of their BEING. To share my knowledge of the difference between male and female realities and the needs of women sailing and other adventures. I invite you to celebrate personal success and well-being through awareness, motion and nature. Join me on a journey of freedom, magical adventure and let your Spirit fly."
